Activities For College Students (Off-Campus!)

July 28, 2025

As a college student, the urge to break free from the campus bubble is real – we get it! Between seemingly-endless lectures, group projects, and meals at the dining hall, you might feel stuck in a rut. Fear not! We’ve compiled a list of activities for college students – both general and local to our area – that will reignite inspiration and draw you out of that college campus funk.

Fun Activities For College Students

Knowing how to have fun as a college student while balancing due dates can be daunting sometimes. But it can’t only be about late night study sessions, right? College is a time of exploration and self-discovery, and taking a step outside of the familiar campus realm can do wonders for shaking things up.

Here are some of our best picks to make the absolute most of your time in college.

Go skydiving.

Did you see this one coming? Hehe! Skydiving is one of the most exhilarating activities you can do as a solo adventure or with your best buds. Wondering, “How can I have fun in college without friends?” Well, you can jump out of a perfectly good airplane with us

Skydiving is definitely on the ‘things to do before graduating college’ bucket-list, and we’re smack-dab in the middle of plenty of universities. If you’re looking for things to do near Connecticut College, we’re only 40 minutes away – that’s like … the time it takes to listen to your favorite song 12 times! Easy!

  • CT State Community College Quinebaug Valley to Skydive Danielson: 3 minutes!
  • Nichols College to Skydive Danielson: 25 minutes
  • Connecticut College to Skydive Danielson: 40 minutes
  •  Brown University to Skydive Danielson: 40 minutes
  •  Bryant University to Skydive Danielson: 45 minutes
  •  Wesleyan University to Skydive Danielson: Just over an hour!

Going skydiving comes with tons of benefits and you would have a heckuva story to tell your physics professor about how you really experienced gravity! Or maybe you’re an RA and need  a fun icebreaker for college students during orientation. Talking about something unbelievable you’ve done like jumping from an airplane would win instant cool points!

Spend time outdoors.

We all know we feel better after photosynthesizing, and yes, you still get some sweet vitamin D even on the cloudy days! Whether it’s a quick hike, a picnic, or watching the sunset, there are plenty of fun stress relief activities for college students.

Local ideas:

Get outside and let the fresh air work its magic!

Indulge in art.

There is a type of art for everyone. Find new music venues or festivals, small coffee shop jazz sessions, open-mic nights, art walks, pottery classes, painting … anything that will get your creative senses flowing!

Local ideas:

  • Barnaby Castle, Providence, RI: This place is full of architectural and murderous history.

  • Art walks: There are monthly art walks in Providence, RI with trolley rides to get around!

  • Pottery and painting: Kil’n It Pottery Studio in Enfield offers private pottery wheel instruction for beginners.

These activities are engaging and leisurely opportunities to meet new people and discover passions you didn’t know you had – something that is so important to stay in touch with as you get deeper into your college years.

Exercise your mind and body.

We agree that hitting the gym can be pretty boring – we like to leap from planes for our exercise. Playing billiards, going swimming, going bowling, joining a running club, or skydiving (wink, wink), are great ways to engage your mind and body after being stuck in a classroom all day.

Local ideas:

  • Run clubs: Check local listings, Instagram accounts, running stores, or colleges for already-established clubs … or start your own!
  •  Playing pool: Yale Billiards in Wallingford, CT is top-notch. Playing billiards is an easy way to meet new people (you can converse as little or as much as you’d like) while honing in on some hand eye coordination.

Be intentionally restful.

Even though the days feel never ending, college life can zoom by – especially if you’re juggling a job or internship on top of your studies. Setting aside time for intentional rest and rejuvenation is a must.

Restful and local ideas:

  • Walks: We know, this may sound a bit lame, but an outdoor stroll (or even a walk on the treadmill) has loads of benefits.
  • Yoga classes: Yoga is a great way to intentionally ground yourself and realign your mindset. The Wholistic Collective in Danielson, CT offers classes every day of the week!
  •  Movie nights: Grab some popcorn and your favorite comfort candy and watch a film you’ve been wanting to see.

Do something new.

What is the best activity for college students to get them out of their comfort zone? Try something totally different. Whether it’s taking a cooking class, rock climbing, or volunteering at an animal shelter – you can’t knock it ’til ya try it!

Don’t lose your zest for life, and if you have lost it … rediscover it! We believe in you. If you want to gain an entirely new perspective on life alongside some pretty rad people, come jump with us! We can accommodate solo thrill-seekers or large groups. Please reach out if you have any questions!
